Northern Arizona Healthcare’s Verde Valley Medical Center is actively transitioning its emergency physicians from a staffing group to an employed provider group. Currently, 10 physicians have been hired, but five to six more physicians are needed to be fully staffed.
By employing its emergency physicians, VVMC is able to provide a higher level care. Most of the physicians who are hired have worked at VVMC and are familiar with the hospital’s policies, procedures and staff.
More importantly, by moving towards an employed approach, the emergency physicians are a part of the community. These physicians live in the area and have an investment in the health of the communities NAH serves.
Flagstaff Medical Center uses a staffing group for its emergency physicians, but the staffing group they contract with employs physicians in the Flagstaff area, which keeps the investment in the community high.
