Our program at a glance

Verde Valley Medical Center is located in the beautiful rural setting of Cottonwood, Arizona. Our three-year Internal Medicine Residency program, the result of a partnership between VVMC and Midwestern University, is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association, or AOA.

Our program began in 2010 with four residents. Each year, we add four new residents to the program to maintain a maximum of 12 residents – four first-years, four second-years and four third-years. The small size of the program, the camaraderie of the residents and the one-on-one time with supervising physicians make this a very attractive option to many candidates.

VVMC offers exposure to a wide variety of patient populations and pathologies. Our weekly continuity clinics, electives and opportunities to perform research prepare residents to embark on successful, diverse career paths. Above all, our focus is to give each resident an excellent, in-depth educational experience.

Our residents have a 100 percent pass rate on the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine, or AOBIM, Board certification examination. In addition, every third-year resident who applied for a fellowship has received the fellowship of his or her choice.

In March 2016, VVMC ranked thirteenth out of approximately 110 programs on the American College of Osteopathic Internists in-service examination.

We are in the process of applying to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, or ACGME, for dual accreditation status. Once approved, this will allow us to accept highly qualified M.D. and D.O. medical school graduates. In addition, we are applying for Osteopathic recognition with the ACGME.
