Meghan Hughes, MD, MPH, board-certified primary care physician, recently joined Northern Arizona Healthcare Medical Group – Flagstaff.
Dr. Hughes moved to Arizona from New Zealand where she spent the last 16 months in general practice. Dr. Hughes is looking forward to exploring Flagstaff and the surrounding area. In her free time, she likes to hike, trail run, read and knit.
Q: What is your care philosophy?
A: I am interested in engaging patients in meeting their healthcare goals.
Q: What do you enjoy about being in the field of medicine?
A: I enjoy the variety that comes with each day in family medicine.
Q: Tell us about your specialty.
A: I look forward to seeing both kids and adults. I enjoy being able to work with patients throughout their lifespans in the context of their families and environments. I love my colleagues! In general, I find people who work in family medicine are friendly; easy-going; supportive; and have a healthy work-life balance.
Q: Does your scope of practice include holistic/integrative medicine?
A: I am happy to discuss complementary and alternative therapies with interested patients, but do not specialize in holistic medicine.
Q: What are the areas of expertise and interest are you most excited about bringing to NAH?
A: I really enjoy seeing a variety of patients in terms of age and healthcare needs throughout the day. I have a particular interest in women’s health, geriatrics and minor procedures.
Q: What do patients tell you they appreciate about you?
A: I think my patients appreciate that I try to take the time to explain their health conditions and options for treatment.
Q: Why did you choose to relocate here?
A: My husband and I were looking for a small city in the Western United States with four seasons and good recreational opportunities. We think Flagstaff will be a good fit.
