Max Matson, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine physician. He joined the primary care team at Northern Arizona Healthcare’s Verde Valley Medical Clinic – Cottonwood in September. Dr. Matson grew up in Lander, Wyo. He earned his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle and his bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo. He completed his residency at the University of Colorado Internal Medicine Residency Program in Aurora, Colo.
Q: What is your care philosophy?
A: I focus on patient-centered-care with a goal of working with each patient to form a plan that is both evidence-based and within each patient’s goal of care.
Q: What do you want your patients to know about you?
A: I want my patients to know that it is my goal to provide the highest quality of care I am able during each patient encounter. I hope to have an open dialogue and provide education regarding health conditions and treatment options in order to allow my patients to understand and direct their healthcare.
Q: What do you enjoy about being in the field of medicine?
A: I enjoy the field of medicine because it provides the opportunity to be a partner with my patient’s during the journey through life.
Q: Tell us about your specialty. What drew you to it and what keeps you in it?
A: I work in the field of internal medicine with a focus on primary care. Internal medicine is focused on care for both the adult and geriatric population including acute and chronic disease management. I am drawn to this field because it allows the opportunity to develop long-term relationships with patients and care for all aspects of their health.
Q: What do patients tell you they appreciate about you?
A: My patient’s appreciate the time I take to hear their story and understand how their health affects their lives. Additionally they appreciate the time I take to provide education on their health conditions and the reasons we are providing specific treatments.
Q: What are some of your achievements or recognitions?
A: I received the Dave Tanaka Award at the University of Colorado Internal Medicine Residency Program. This award is provided yearly to the outstanding resident at the Lowry Primary Care Clinic.
Q: Why did you choose to relocate here?
A: I chose to move to the Verde Valley as my family and I prefer a rural setting and natural beauty that this location provides.
