Nurse Residency Program

Northern Arizona Healthcare (NAH) offers a standardized nurse residency program at Flagstaff Medical Center (FMC) and Verde Valley Medical Center (VVMC).  The program graduates about 100 students annually, making it one of the largest in the southwest United States.

The Nurse Residency Program is a dedicated transition to practice program for nurses with less than one year of experience. We use this program to train international nurses and new to acute care RNs, i.e., those with prior experience as a home-health nurse, jail nurse or non-bedside nurse.

We believe in lifelong learning. Our colleagues may enhance their education via many in-house classes for continuing education credits. In addition, our hospitals have unit-based educators to teach clinical staff face-to-face as they care for patients. This way, our nurses continue their education in a classroom and in real time.

We promote professional development from day one, and support staff as they build a solid foundation of knowledge and skills for long-term competency and success. We offer colleagues tuition reimbursement of up to $5,250 per year to further their nursing education.
