Medical weight loss program

The medical weight loss program is currently unavailable, but will return at a later date.

Flagstaff Medical Center is pleased to offer a medically supervised weight loss program using a Very Low Calorie Ketogenic Diet (VLCD). We offer a program that includes doctor and dietician visits, weekly classes and behavioral education.

VLCD Plan

The VLCD plan is a meal replacement plan where regular food is replaced with nutritionally balanced shakes and bars. This very low calorie, very low carbohydrate, high protein meal plan is typically well tolerated and very effective at achieving weight loss.  Our goal is to help you achieve improved health and improved quality of life through significant reasonable weight loss followed by weight maintenance.

Our program includes the VLCD plan for 4-6 weeks, followed by transition to a ketogenic diet.

Ketogenic Diet

A low calorie, very low carbohydrate, meal plan leads to steady fat metabolism/catabolism.  This steady burning of fat leads to an increase of ketones in your blood (ketosis). Ketones are also used by the brain for energy. This typically leads to a drop in appetite. This reduced appetite makes it easier to stay on the plan.
