Spine and neck surgery

Surgery is necessary in only a small number of patients with cervical (neck) and spine problems. Factors that may lead to the need for surgery include your response to prior treatment; level of pain and loss of function; degree of nerve damage or threat of future nerve damage; neck or spinal damage; and long-term outcome without surgery. If it’s needed, however, our surgeons are skilled in a variety of surgical treatments including spine (lumbar) disc replacement, spinal lumbar fusion, and minimally invasive (small incisions) surgeries.

The risks of cervical and spinal surgeries are low, and you may be able to go home the same day of surgery. Most people are in the hospital one night and go home the next day, although some patients may stay two days. Depending on the kind of surgery you have, full recovery may take three months to a year.
