Renovation of FMC’s Women and Infants Unit passes halfway point

Northern Arizona Healthcare began renovating the Women and Infants Unit at Flagstaff Medical Center last April. Now, the project is over halfway completed and about to wrap up the second phase in construction.

This project, which converts 11 labor and delivery rooms into labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum, or LDRP, rooms reflects a new care model for women and their families. LDRP rooms allow families to stay in one room from admission to discharge and increases continuity of care by allowing patients to stay in the same location and retain the same nursing staff. The unit has been refreshed with more vibrant colors and spa-like feel to create a more inviting environment.

Renovating the Women and Infants Unit not only enhances the patient’s experience, it benefits the nursing staff by increasing employee satisfaction and retention. NAH Director of Women and Infant Services, Deb Ledington, is supported by NAH’s senior leadership team, as Ledington strives to create the ultimate patient experience for expecting mothers.

As NAH continues to invest in the communities it serves, this project’s completion − which is scheduled for this winter − will be one step closer to fulfilling NAH’s vision of being a model healthcare system distinguished by its people, quality, service and dedication to community health solutions.
