Congratulations! You are expecting a baby and it is an exciting time. The members of our Childbirth Education team at Flagstaff Medical Center is here to help you and your family prepare for this experience. We offer a variety of classes and services to give you the information and assistance you will need for birth and beyond. Classes are taught by Labor and Delivery nurses and certified and specially trained healthcare professionals. Early registration is recommended, as classes fill up quickly.
This seven-hour class is designed for people with busy schedules or for those expectant parents who live outside Flagstaff. Topics include in-depth information on the labor and childbirth process, role of the support person, comfort measures, medications, anesthesia and relaxation and breathing techniques. A physician from Forest Country Anesthesia provides an Anesthesia Question and Answer Session during the class. Plan to attend this class prior to 34 weeks of pregnancy. The $65 tuition is for two people – the mother and her partner.
This class meets on a Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes a one-hour lunch break on your own.
You will need to bring the following items for your class: 2 to 4 pillows, a bath towel and a blanket for floor exercises and a pen and paper to take notes. You will also need a refillable water bottle to use throughout the day. Feel free to bring some snacks for you and your labor partner. Be sure to wear comfortable, stretchy clothes.
It is recommended to arrive ten minutes early for class to give you time to get signed in and settled in, as class begins promptly at 9:00 AM.

Non-employees: If you know which class or program you would like to take, you may go directly to the registration site by following this link, NAH Learning Management System (LMS) for community members.
Employees: If you know which class or program you would like to take, you may go directly to the NAH Colleague Portal, NAHLink.com.
Once logged into LMS, select "Search" at the top of the screen, select "Classroom" under the course type criteria and then enter the class name in the search box. This will provide a list of available class dates.

FMC now offers an income-based sliding scale, which is applicable to all courses and course package fees. If you are interested in applying for the sliding scale, please check the box regarding sliding scale on the registration form. You will need to verify household size and income.

After registering online, you will receive an email from the Childbirth Education office confirming receipt of your registration. If you do not receive registration materials within 48 hours of your scheduled class, please contact the Childbirth Education office at Autumn.Argent@nahealth.com. Please include your email address and current phone number in any messages to ensure accurate delivery of your registration information.
If a class is posted as full and you are interested in registering for that class, please contact the Childbirth Education Office at Autumn.Argent@nahealth.com. You will be placed on the waiting list. You will be notified by phone if there is a cancellation and seats become available for you and your partner.
If you would like to register for a class less than 24 hours before it is scheduled, please contact the Childbirth Education office to confirm that there are still seats available. Classes tend to fill quickly.
If you do not notify the CBE office at least 24 hours prior to the date of the class of your inability to attend and you do not show up for class, no reimbursement will be issued.
If your class is canceled due to severe weather conditions, the Childbirth Education office will notify you by phone. Please check your voicemail messages before leaving for class.
Occasionally a class may need to be canceled due to low registration. If this occurs, you will be contacted by phone and other scheduling arrangements will be made or if desired, a reimbursement can be issued.
Occasionally a physician from Forest Country Anesthesia may not be available to provide an Anesthesia Question and Answer Session. In this case, the Labor Basics nurse educator will provide additional information on the topic.
